Deadly tropical storm Son-Tinh batters Philippines

Typhoon Son-Tinh was a strong, late-forming typhoon that has destroyed the Philippines with tropical storm strength and battered Northern Vietnam with hurricane-force winds at landfall on October 28. It formed on October 21, 2012 and dissipated on October 30,2012, which was quite long compare with other natural disasters.

Approximately 24 people have been killed in the tropical storm in the Philippines.

At least 24 people have lost their lives in severe downpours and flooding triggered by Typhoon Son-Tinh in Philippines.


The death is was updated saying that about half of the victims were killed by landslides and by drowning while others were hit by debris or electrocuted. 

More than 15,000 local people have been staying in the government evacuation centres. 

About six people were still missing.
Typhoon Son-Tinh has battered more than 30 provinces in the central, eastern and southern Philippines


The storm caused heavy rains and strong winds over the Visayas. On October 24th night, the storm strongly hit Cebu with rain and winds.

The Philippines see between 15 and 20 major storms or typhoons each year, that occur mainly during the rainy season in the summer and autumn.

The storm is heading westward towards Vietnam at 22km/h (14mph) per hour and is forecast to strengthen into a typhoon.
