Hurricane Sandy 2012



Hurricane Sandy was a hurricane that destroyed the parts of the Caribbean, the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern United States, and Eastern Canada in late October 2012. Sandy developed from a tropical wave in the western Caribbean Sea on October 22 and after six hours it quickly strengthened and upgraded to Tropical Storm Sandy. On October 24, Sandy became a hurricane, made landfall near Kingston, Jamaica and a few hours later, it arises into the Caribbean Sea and transformed into a category 2 hurricane. On October 25, Sandy hit Cuba and changed to a category 1 hurricane. On October 26, Sandy went through the Bahamas. On October 27, Sandy was still remaining as a category 1 hurricane. In the early of October 29, Sandy went moved near to the Atlantic City, New Jersey as a ''post-tropical cyclone'' with strong hurricane-force winds.

Hurricane Sandy aftermath

United States

-After Hurricane Sandy, New York utilities restored power to at least 95 percent of customers 13 days after the peak number of outages was reported. New Jersey reached that same level in 11 days and West Virginia in 10 days.

Jamaica

-Hurricane Sandy has made an increase in the prices of most agricultural produce in Jamaica and local people are blaming the storm for it. Consumers said that they had been paying almost twice amount they usual for fruits and vegetables and there is a possibilities that the price might continue to go up in coming weeks due to scarcities stemming from the impact of Hurricane Sandy.

Haiti


Although Haiti was not directly in Sandy's path, the storm last month triggered heavy rains and severe flooding in the west and the south. Rivers, which flooded during the storm, washed away topsoil, fruit trees and cultures. Eroded banks gave way and protective walls were shattered.
